Bio
Blake D. Smith joined Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush, P.A., in 2009 after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He is an associate at the Ridgeland office and practices in the firm’s general litigation section with a primary focus on insurance and tort law. He is admitted to practice law before all state and federal courts in Mississippi.
In law school, Mr. Smith was a member of the Mississippi Law Journal and served as its Development Editor. He received Outstanding Student Awards in torts and in law and religion. During his first year, Mr. Smith won the Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush Appellate Advocacy Competition. He later clerked for Judge Edwin Hayes Roberts, Jr., of the 18th Chancery Division.
Mr. Smith obtained a Master of Arts in Journalism in 2005 from the University of Mississippi and as a teaching assistant, pursued graduate studies related to the First Amendment and to mass media law. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy at the University of Mississippi in 2003 and graduated from Hancock High School as valedictorian of his senior class in 1999. Mr. Smith grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Hancock County.
