Bob Richardson, a native of Mississippi, handles various types of business-related matters, with an emphasis on Labor and Employment Law and Workplace Safety Law. He is a graduate of the University Of Mississippi School Of Law, and is licensed in both Tennessee and Mississippi.
Following law school, Mr. Richardson lived in Memphis, Tennessee, where he spent several years with a general practice law firm. He also spent eight years in Memphis working in-house with a large international electronics manufacturing corporation, providing legal counsel to the company on a wide variety of business, safety, employment, and union-related issues and also serving as the manager of employee relations.
Mr. Richardson has extensive experience in assisting management in complying with the myriad of laws affecting the employment relationship in the workplace. He is available as needed to provide advice and preventive counseling to employers regarding the day-to-day personnel issues encountered in the workplace, and he also assists clients with drafting/updating employee handbooks and personnel policies, employee and management training, affirmative action programs, employee benefits issues, individual and executive employment agreements, noncompetition and trade secrets agreements, severance agreements, workplace safety, employee pay issues, unemployment claims, and other compliance and preventive measures. Mr. Richardson has experience in assisting employers with investigations and charges by agencies such as the EEOC, OSHA, EPA, Wage & Hour, and OFCCP, and in defending lawsuits based on claims of wrongful discharge, whistle-blowing, discrimination, harassment, breach of contract, and other employment-related charges. Mr. Richardson also counsels and aids employers with labor issues, such as maintaining non-union status, union elections, negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, grievances and arbitrations, and unfair labor practice proceedings before the NLRB.
Mr. Richardson’s practice also includes other areas of law, such as contracts, corporate law, general business law, insurance company insolvency, bankruptcy, collections, and related litigation.
Mr. Richardson has served as a labor arbitrator and served for ten years as a special judge in the Memphis City Courts. He has been a faculty speaker for the American Arbitration Association, the Mississippi Manufacturers Association; various bar associations, and other business and professional groups on the subjects of employment, labor, safety, and business law, and is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management. He is a member of several bar associations, including the Labor and Employment Law sections of the American Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar, and the Tennessee Bar Association, and is a former vice-chairman of the Corporate Counsel Section of the Memphis Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Mississippi and Tennessee, as well as the Fifth Circuit and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
